The Legend of Gruemire

The Legend of Gruemire

The name of the municipality takes its name from a village in the center of this municipality called Gruemirë. The name of this village derives from a good woman who was filling water in the wells of that time which were located near the source in the north of the village of Gruemirë. When some travelers got tired of the trip, they asked her for water from her driveway, but at that time it was dry summer and the wells had very little water, although only that water was there. They told her about another woman from a nearby village, Grude-Fushë who they asked for water because they were thirsty, the woman who was filling the water, denied them the water and threw stones at them. After listening to these words, the good woman gave them water to drink and then the travelers said of the village of that woman who was not given the water to drink which is the villain village today called (Grudë) while for the village of the good woman who gave a drink and they called it Gruemirë the village of the good woman. From that moment the name of this area remained the name Gruemirë. The name of the area or village is found in the Veneto land register of the XV century as Gruemirë.
