Chestnut tree of Reç

Influenced by the climate, the microclimate and above all by the composition of the soil, Reç is the only area in Malesia e Madhe where chestnut fruits grow, in an area of about 500 hectares, which are located in the villages of Reç, Mosel, Qafëgradë , Repisht and Kokëpapaj. Of this area, about 350 hectares are old chestnuts and 150 hectares are new chestnuts that have just started to produce. Reç chestnut trees have been planted in this area for over 300 years and their diameter exceeds 2 m. Because of the importance of these forest, with the government’s decision of 1974 it was declared a natural monument with scientific, educational, aesthetic, tourist and economic values.
