Cave of Gjek Marku

Cave of Gjek Marku

It is located on the neck of Mekseza in the village of Bogë at an altitude of 1800 m above sea level. The entrance begins with a hole of 5 m in diameter. With this width it continues up to a depth of 15 m, from where two other vertical chimneys continue to a depth of 104 m, where a horizontal threshold of about 15 m appears and the main well 126 m deep begins. There are also unexplored side branches. The depth of this cave is 234 m. At the bottom of the cave there are stacks of stones, snow and fossil ice. This cave has special scientific values thanks to its geological construction, karst development in the depths and the living or fossilized world in tunnels and especially in the ice preserved inside it since the Quaternary times. Entrance and exploration in this cave are recommended only for speleologists.
